Irrationality, like stupidity, is a part of all human beings. We are wired to be that way, and have to be careful about how we view those sporadic moments of mild insanity. I say this because the implication of this otherwise “not-so-common” mindset is, of course, authoritarianism. Let’s welcome the irrationality in us once in a while – an appreciation of our fallibility. You know how they say variety is the spice of life, what about random absurdity or lunacy.
Of course, in academia, science and most fields of social enterprise, rationality is demanded at the highest level. That you have to strictly go by the rules and lores of logic and reasoning at all times. They must almost always unconsciously apply(some cognitive dissonance shit that creates). An obvious instance of the systematic education we all churn through. But think this out and through, our imperfect perception and reasoning have gotten us this far, through trial and errors. They’ve pulled us, by the “tail”, out of caves and onto cloud-tickling floors of skyscrapers and flying metal-crafts(high five, up top). Because in many cases we get good enough feedback to learn a lot about how to achieve results and things in our mysterious multiverse – a good pay for our ingenuity. We’re limited in what we can do, but sometimes it’s worth trying something, something of novelty.
The trouble is when i can do things that benefit me and only me at the expense of an other biped. Or put it this way, “who cares how you feel about my irrationality, I do it anyway.” And this is especially true in life’s major spheres. But it’s not just the stupid who create – what does the philosopher/economist call it – externalities; it’s everybody, in their small ways. The costs of my sudden ideological radicalism towards the modus operandi of society is nil. But when a little more than a few of us share the same hare-brained idea, we can do real harm in unimaginable proportions. Truly, many people entertain bad ideas that have real consequences, and it’s still being heralded by most other people. I mean its all not to be considered strange or weird… until I walk out naked one afternoon, with my hairbrush for microphone, and a big ass bible to accompany, preaching the burgeoning second coming of our lord yesua ben…
[…]And the story is still untold!
